Support Engineer – Farnborough

We are looking to expand our team of highly experienced and dedicated IT support engineers with an individual who shares our philosophy and wants to join our very close and mutually supportive team.

The candidate should have a keen interest in IT – after all, it’s at the heart of what we do! You will be responsible for taking a leading role in Data Centre and Client support, hardware upgrades, repairing faults on remote computer systems, peripheral equipment, networks, and cloud-based solutions.

The role will by necessity involve some out-of-hours work when required, participation in an on-call rota, and require travel to and from the Datacentre. Travel between our other sites and customer locations may also be required.

Has the ability and is comfortable working either on their own or as part of a team. Attention to detail is extremely important, as well as the ability to research issues, problem solve and identify innovative ways to continually improve the customer experience.

Core competencies

The ideal candidate will have good experience in the following areas:

  • 2 years of customer-facing IT support experience, ideally in a similar role with incident management experience
  • Excellent customer communication skills (written, telephone and face-to-face)
  • Thorough understanding of PC troubleshooting, including all versions of Windows, and Microsoft Office 365
  • Clear and concise troubleshooting methodology
  • Basic hardware troubleshooting
  • Data Centre Experience
    • Demonstrable appreciation and/or understanding of security considerations
    • Appreciation of Data Centre best practices
    • Equipment relocations and installation of new equipment (servers, switches, etc.)
    • Replacement of field serviceable parts (e.g., hard drives, power supplies)
    • Supervision of pre-authorised 3rd party visits
    • Documentation of rack diagrams after device installations/removals
    • Adjust/add network configurations
    • Monitoring equipment status
    • Power Cycle equipment
  • Windows Server Administration
    • Active Directory – including knowledge of creating users from scratch.
    • Group Policy – Creation and troubleshooting
    • DHCP/DNS troubleshooting
    • Management of virtual machines through remote desktop services and Cloud portals
  • Networking and Switches
    • Basic Understanding of Networking
    • Cabling Checks, installation, and replacement of patch cables
  • Routers/Firewalls
    • Troubleshooting of Internet Connection issues
    • Good Cisco knowledge would be extremely beneficial.
  • Patching
    • Experience with patching in a corporate environment
    • Keeping documentation up to date
  • Network Storage
    • Knowledge of file storage solutions for small and large business requirements.
  • Detailed call logging to ensure all customer requirements are captured.
  • Confidence to learn new technologies and support them for customers.

Desired additional experience

  • IT Framework qualification e.g., ITIL V3 or V4 Foundation
  • Familiarity with the Office 365 admin interface
  • Understanding of at least one backup technology (Veeam preferred)
  • Microsoft certifications
  • Scripting

Requirements

  • Full UK driving license.
  • To be eligible to obtain or already hold full UK (SC) Security Clearance
  • Comply with, respect, and adopt ADT professional standards, policies, procedures, work ethics and principles
